Behind the Lens: Jiuzhaigou Pictures

  • Behind the Lens: Jiuzhaigou Pictures

This is how we spent the morning at Jiuzhaigou nature reserve; one of our favourite places to travel in western China.

In the north of Sichuan Province lies Jiuzhaigou, a nature reserve which brings Chinese tourists flocking. Do not let the crowds stop you, this incredible national park lies within a valley on the edge of a Tibetan Plateau stretching over 72,000 hectares. Famous for is crystal clear lakes and stunning waterfalls it is destination not to be missed.

Two different seasons (summer and winter) sees this park transform into two opposite scenes. In summer the green pine forest thrive casting vivid reflections upon the multi-colour lakes. Get there early to watch the fog, trapped from the cooler nights, transcend above the mountains. In winter, the waterfalls are frozen mid stream, as are the lakes. A true white winter wonderland.

Having visited only in the summer months we have put Jiuzhaigou on our MUST RETURN to list.

SOD Tips :

  • Buy a green bus pass. No matter how touristy you feel, the park is just too big to conquer by foot in one day.
