To travel Spain means more than visiting bull fights and decorated cities, give it a chance and immerse yourself in its huge and diverse landscape that is wholly underestimated. Before we arrived, our images were plain and simple, Spain would have decent beaches, a lot of British tourists and the occasional architectural masterpiece. But we were wrong.
While basing ourselves in central Spain for two months, we began to unveil an original and very authentic Spain; A country with a rich history embedded within ancient walls and castle dungeons; a Spain with lunar-landscapes, mighty peaks, deep limestone gorges and parched deserts; a Spain we never knew existed.
From the unknown to the well known, Spain is synonymous with two things: Siestas and Fiestas. With centuries of practice this is one population who knows how to put on a spectacle. Encounter a human pyramid, scary demons spewing fireworks, enormous fairytale characters and reenactments of war in the main street on a daily basis throughout Spain’s summer months. Getting caught in showers of burning embers, the World’s largest food fight and laughing at geese taking part in a 500 year old parade is all just a part of Spain’s very colourful way of life.
In this destination guide we hope to help you travel Spain in a different way, seeking out unusual and often unexpected treasures without spending the time like we did having to find them. What do you want to do first?
