Kirkjufell

Explore Iceland: explore Kirkjufell

Kirkjufell ‘Church Mountain,’ situated in the north of the Snaefellsnes Penisular, is one of the most photographed mountains in Iceland. Barely reaching 400m in height, Kirkjufell shows no sign of discontent and nor should it. With a string of visitors paying homage to it by day and night, along with a steadfast spot on the ‘World’s most majestic Mountain’ list according to Mashable, this iconic mountain is pictured everywhere.  Yes, Kirkjufell’s ever looming presence is unmissable but the surrounding areas shouldn’t be overlooked. The small town of Grundarfjordur, nestled below the popular mountain, is a quaint seaside village. Keep a look out for sea birds, waterfalls, seals and the coastal roads either side of town side which are equally as impressive, if not more, than Kirkjufell itself.
