Why we love Melbourne’s Highway Art and why is should be on your list of places to see in Australia.

.

You know you are in Melbourne when you are fascinated by the journey from the airport to the city centre. With the cities skyline shimmering over your left shoulder you are navigated between colourful borders, a slanted archway and a tunnel that looks rather like a spaceship. Already you know this city is big on art and that is before you’ve reached Melbourne’s central square, found one of it’s graffitied alleyways or edged onto its Eastlink highway.

Hopping into the car one Saturday Prue and I made it our mission to scour Melbourne’s motorways in search of incredibly odd sculptures, also known as urban highway art. The Eastlink Freeway (M11) has to be the first place in the world where toll fee’s have brought entertainment to the drivers who pay them, I love it!

I hope you enjoy these 7 portraits that help to describe just how varied Victoria’s highway art really is. Most of the shots are taken at very high speeds from outside of the passenger window.
