Obtaining a Laos Visa

Obtaining a Laos Visa

Quirky border, crossing the Mekong and entering Laos by boat. One of the most simple ways to enter Laos is to leave from Chiang Khong in north Thailand. The only trouble you’ll have is keeping your balance while clambering to the back of the skinny long-tail motor boat. It is a mere 40 baht ($1.50) and 45 seconds to depart one side of the Mekong and ram into the other. Obviously this is not enough time to find your sea legs and one must graciously stagger their way onto the new land. In Laos the immigration department at Huay Xia are fast, effective and charge around 20 US dollars for a 1 month visa. This amount will slightly vary depending on your country of origin, for example Australians are charged $5 less than the British.

Address:   Chiang Khong Pier.

Day to obtain visa:     On arrival

Visa Requirements for Laos: Passport, single passport photo, $20 cash (Thai baht also accepted).
