Explore North Maluku: Explore Ternate Indonesia

Ternate Indonesia is a tiny island with a big personality and massive history. As one of the original spice islands Pulau Ternate made a fortune from growing cinnamon and cloves in the 15th Century and remains to be one of Indonesia’s wealthiest areas. Its lively atmosphere, multicoloured housing, serene views and crater lakes makes Ternate in Indonesia a stunning place to visit. You can reach Ternate by ferry or plane, its Bastiong port allows access to the rest of North Maluku.

Halmahera Island and Tidore Island, like Ternate are also worthy destinations for an adventurous traveller who wants to get to know the spice islands and muslim Indonesia a little better. We spent a few weeks exploring the area and felt a millions miles from anywhere and were drawn by the fact the island is one giant volcano. Very cool indeed!
