Where the Wild Things Are: Prince Albert NP

Where the Wild Things Are: Prince Albert NP

.

Prince Albert National Park sits in Saskatchewan’s far north, it is a lush forested region in contrast to most of the province. We could’t miss the opportunity to pay this Parks Canada site a visit on our way west. Our second National Park on our ultimate Canadian road trip became a wonderland of wildlife, stunning lakes and sunsets: everything we could hope for from nature. It was amazing how we found so many of the wild things in Prince Albert NP and one awesome canoe trip to go along with them. Driving, hiking and paddling our way into the heart of this wilderness we turned a short stay into an epic adventure with nature. After 6 days of exploration here are a few of our favourite places:

.

.

Height Of Land Tower

Not just an opportunity to view Prince Albert NP from above the tree-line but a chance to drive the southern road and capture a staring swift fox perhaps, or an elk or two.

The Narrows Campsite

This campsite sits well off the beaten path and not only has prime viewing of the sun setting over Lake Waskesiu but offers a chance to get seriously close to cute rodents.

Flora and fauna along the Mud Creek Trail

It’s a beaver playground around here, or so it seems. In and amongst the stunning boreal forest is a labyrinth of gnawed trees, beaver dams and if you’re lucky you’ll get to spot one having a feast 🙂

Hanging Hearts Lakes

Paddle a canoe between these adjoining lakes while watching bald eagles fight pelicans in mid-flight and gazing at thousands of lily pads.

A short beautiful hike along the eastern fringes of Waskesiu Lake where we were lucky to spot this white tailed deer.
